Thesis and introduction
THESIS: With in the life of Reginald Lewis he accomplished so much. By him attending Harvard with such little money barely none and flipping it into millions.
Reginald F. Lewis was born on December 7, 1942, in a Baltimore, Maryland, neighborhood he later described as “semi-tough.” Strongly influenced by his family, he began his career at the age of ten by delivering the local Afro-American newspaper. Fortune Magazine reported that “as a child, Lewis kept his earnings in a tin can known as ‘Reggie’s Hidden Treasure.’” The tin can had been given to him by his grandmother, who taught him the importance of saving some of everything he earned. Reginald later sold his newspaper business at a profit.
During his high school years at Dunbar, Reginald excelled in both his studies and sports. As quarterback of the football team, shortstop on the baseball team, and a forward on the basketball team, he served as captain in all three teams. Reginald was also elected vice-president of the student body; his friend and classmate, Robert Bell (current Chief Judge of Maryland), was president. In addition, Reginald worked nights and weekends at jobs with his grandfather, a head waiter and maitre d’.

In 1987 Lewis bought Beatrice International Foods for $985 million, and created TLC Beatrice, a snack food, beverage, and grocery store conglomerate that was the largest black-owned and black-managed business in the U.S. At its peak in 1996, TLC Beatrice had sales of $2.2 billion and was number 512 on Fortune magazine's list of 1,000 largest companies. Reginald F. Lewis was an African American born to a working class family on December 7, 1942, in East Baltimore. He was born during a time when no one had heard of Martin Luther King, Jr., or civil rights, or integration. Blacks at that time could not try on clothes or shop at many downtown stores. they couldn't eat in certain restaurants or go to certain movie theaters. From his youth Lewis was known for his drive and desire for excellence. The strong work ethic from his mother and grandfather coupled with his life-long hunger for wealth and personal glory fueled his success on the playing field, in the classroom, and in the boardroom. In High School he earned four varsity letters in baseball, three in football where he was the starting quarterback and two varsity letters in basketball. He attended Harvard Law School and became a successful corporate lawyer before remaking himself into a financier and buyer of corporations.

N.H.D. POST 1
I choose Reginald F. Lewis for my NHD Project because I am interested in him becoming the wealthiest black man in history. He was born during a time when no one had heard of Martin Luther King, Jr., or civil rights, or integration. From his youth Lewis was known for his drive and desire for excellence. He entered Harvard University without filling out an application and then attending this school, with only $50.00 and then taking his education and flip that pinch of money and turn it into billions.

Aquila vs. Shaquill R.
Both debaters know how to project their voices. This was helpful but to the qualities of a good argument need to be maintained. Remember to clearly state reason, support with evidence, and explain how evidence supports reasoning. I really loved Aquila's rebudle as well.
Lizzy vs. Sam
What a great debate! And, kudos to the class for providing meaningful critiques! Sam's use of Lizzy's evidence and arguments and strong opening argument made for a rich and analytical debate.
Lakisha vs. Nataly
I thought that this was a good debate. Even though Lakisha took the win in the end, I felt as though both debaters did a good job. But I had no idea that Lakisha was such a good debater.

Mr. brasof vs. Ms. Mahdi
I really loved Ms. Mahdi's opening and her rebudle as well because not only stated her complaints about slavery but also included a picture making statement reguarding ''mothers'' in general. Mr. Brasof also had a goo opening speech. He to me got his point across in a short sweet way,(nice and smooth). His rebudle way good to because he stated his reason's why he won and then stated why she shouldn't win while throwing in a piece of her intro speech.
Brittany vs. Thomas
I really liked this debate because i have nothing bad to say about either one of them i really liked Brittany's rebudle and her cross examination it was very good.Thomas I really liked his opening speech. He to me really got his point across. So in the end this was a draw.
Naasir vs. Marcus
I really found this debate to be sort of humorous because they were going back and forth with questions and I saw plenty of openings. I really liked Naasir's opening and his rebudle. I really liked the way Marcus cross examined him and he was stuck because he had no proof and was unorganized.
Marcus vs. Amber
I really liked marcus opening speech and his rebudle. Amber i really liked the way shen she was cross examing him she had him stuck for a momment because he had to search for what he was saying then really didn't come up with any proof.
Dyniesha vs. I
I felt as though she did win that debate because of two reasons one she came stronger than i did and twon she cross examined me pretty well. I feel as though I could've projected my voice a little more I think that the judges would've gotten my point that I was trying to get across.

Kate vs. Sharde
I felt as though they both did well Kate's opening was very strong but her counter act was a little off. And on the other hand Shay did well on her rebudle fell off. But end the end I think both of the candidates did very well.
Zoey vs. Alexis
I feel as though they both did well but end the end I really couldn't tell you who would've won. I really liked Alexis's counter act and Zoey's opening.

SERVICE 5/16/08
Last week we were broken up into our own seperate groups because Ms. Thompson felt as though we didn't want to be in this group because she felt as though we weren't helping out enough. So she had us make up some ideas of our own as 9th graders that will help beatify our school. So hopefully next week we will be able to continue on our wants and needs for our plans on and for our school.

Reflection 4/25/08
Our service learning this week was a little different. We talked about going to a garden to take measurements but we didn't go. I think that we are going to go to the garden next week. I feel as though my group is going pretty well. But next week I would like to talk about beatifying our school. Or even making our own garden. maybe discuss about the little piece of land next to our school. Maybe plant flowers in there since its next to our school.

REFLECT 4/17/08
Yesterday I felt as though our group meeting was very influential in a way.
We discussed different ways that we could better our school. We decided that we
should hang many different things on walls around our school. We have much more to
discuss about beautifying our school peace out for now.

INDEPENDANT LEARNING PROJECT
For my service learning project I helped out with the 9th grade interviews in the beginning of the 08 year.
I helped the community by in some way keeping the kids off of the streets. I say that because if they see that I
can make it and succeed at i then they can to. I as a student and an older brother like to see younger kids make
something of themselves. So for my service learning project thats what I did.

NHD TEAMWORK
I think that NHD was a very educational experience. It to me was very life changing, not on the major tip but very powering of my time. It was very hard. First you had to pick a project that interested you. So then I chose the Philadelphia Black Panthers. I already knew a little bit about them but I wanted to get a little more into detail. And I thought that it was no better way to do that than to put it on an exhibit board because i could not only show pictures, but I could express what words that were on my mind as well. Another thing that I would have to say would have to be the teamwork section. I felt as though my partner lacked in that section. I thought that this was supposed to be a teamwork project but it turned out to be a one man show if you no what I mean.

Should parents be allowed 2 hit there kids?
Killing and hurting others intentionally is considered a crime. If a parent hits a child and hurts them isn’t that considered a crime? I believe parents shouldn’t be able to hit their children. Parents shouldn’t be able to hit their children because it could be fatal, and it causes physical & emontional damage, and it doesn’t improve the child.
Fatal means death. If you hit a child in a certain or particular place with a certain amount of force it could kill them. Children aren’t all the way developed so a beating could mean death. Although the purpose wouldn’t be to kill the child just to discipline them, you can never tell. So parents shouldn’t be able to hit their children.
A dramatic experience in your childhood could shape your adult life& your everyday life. Plus it can leave life lasting bruises. Getting hit as a child by your parent can leave you emontionally damaged as well. Some children will feel as if everyone is out to get them. The children may also grow up to despise their parents. Physical damage can be left because a bruise might not heal or an injury may never go away. The emontional damage and physical damage is why parents shouldn’t be able to hit their children.
Hitting a child continuously will not stop them from making mistakes or doing bad things. It will make them share but they will continue to mess up if they know that will be their only punishment. That is why hitting a child is not effective and shouldn’t be used.
To sum up my essay, parents hitting their children shouldn’t be allowed because it could be fatal, cause physical & emotional damage, and it doesn’t work.

Should Huck Be Taught At CHS?
I think that Huck should be taught at CHS because he would get a real education, he would have friends his age as well.
I think that if a child is deprived of a real education and lack of children share share it with it wouldn't be as much fun.
To me having a real education is very important. And if he comes to Constitution High School he would not only get
a good education but good teachers (various). And by him having friends to share his education with, his age he would not only get a good edu. but have many kids to be with.
Huck Finn should be taught in school because it shows how runaway slaves had to struggle just to escape to freedom. Jim had to duck & hides just not to be seen. For example, “ I got hurt a little, en couldn’t swim fas’ so I wuz a considerable ways behind you towards de las: Just to get to the North many became injured & hurt.
